Break the Backtest ("we", "us") publishes educational content about testing trading strategies: out-of-sample testing, walk-forward analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, parameter sensitivity and related methods. This disclaimer applies to the newsletter, the website breakthebacktest.com (hosted on breakthebacktest.beehiiv.com), our free and paid digital products, our tools (including the Monte Carlo drawdown calculator) and our social media channels.
Everything we publish is general education about research methods. It is not investment advice, an investment recommendation, tax advice or legal advice, and it does not take your personal situation, knowledge, goals or risk tolerance into account.
Any strategy, instrument, chart or result we show is an example to illustrate a testing method. It is not a suggestion to trade it.
Trading leveraged products such as CFDs, futures, forex and options is high-risk. You can lose more than you deposit with some products. Most retail traders lose money. Only trade money you can afford to lose. If you need advice, talk to an independent, licensed financial adviser.
Backtested, simulated and hypothetical results have serious limits. They are made with hindsight, can be overfitted, and do not include all real-world costs such as slippage, spreads, commissions, swaps, latency and liquidity. Robustness testing can reduce the chance of fooling yourself, but it cannot remove it. Past performance, real or simulated, is not a reliable indicator of future results. We make no promise about profits, returns or drawdowns, and no method we teach guarantees that a strategy will work live.
The Monte Carlo drawdown calculator and any other tools are provided "as is" for education. Their results depend on your inputs and on simplifying assumptions, such as independent trades and resampling from history. Results are estimates, not forecasts or guarantees. Check the results yourself before relying on them. Files you upload to the calculator are processed only in your browser and are not sent to our servers (see the Privacy Policy).
You alone decide what you do with our content, and you carry the results of those decisions. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses or damages that come from using our content, products or tools. Nothing in this disclaimer limits liability that cannot be limited under Belgian law, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
We sell our own digital products, such as guides and templates. If we use affiliate links or receive anything in return for mentioning a product, broker or software, we say so clearly where it appears (for example "affiliate link" or "sponsored"). We do not accept payment for promoting specific financial instruments. Mentioning software, such as backtesting platforms, is not an endorsement of any broker or investment.
Break the Backtest is a faceless brand. Some of our content, including text, images, video, and voices or presenters, is created or edited with artificial intelligence. AI-generated or AI-manipulated video, audio and images are labelled as such (for example "AI-generated" or "AI voice"). A human reviews all content before it is published, but AI can make mistakes, so please check important facts yourself.
We try to keep content correct and up to date but cannot guarantee it is complete or error-free. Software, platforms, markets and rules change. We may update content, products and this disclaimer at any time.
Break the Backtest is a trade name of Sven Van Achte, a sole proprietorship (secondary occupation) registered in Belgium.
Belgian law applies to this disclaimer. This does not take away any mandatory protection you have as a consumer under the law of your country.
